  SVC EQUESTRIAN PROGRAM

Club FAQs

What is the difference between the team and club?
The members of the club are non-showing equestrians with an interest in horses. The team members are ISHA competitors.

What is the commitment for a club member?
A club member rides on Friday afternoons, dependent upon the weather. Club members are also encouraged to volunteer at various events and participate in fundraisers. The members who participate in activities and fundraisers are given preference when assigning riding times.

What activities does the club host?
In addition to riding the club has movie nights, game nights, trail rides, campfires, dinners, host guest speakers, volunteer work and go on special trips. The club also participates in Fall Family Weekend, Earth Day and Spring Family Weekend.

How much does it cost to join the club?
Riders must wear an ASTM/SEI approved helmet and a boot with a distinct heel with little or no tread. No tennis shoes, please. This is available at a variety of retailers. Club membership Fee is $35, which covers both the fall and spring semesters of one academic year.

What if I've never ridden a horse before?
That's ok! The club is open to anyone with a desire to learn to ride and a love for horses.

Where is the barn?
The barn is located off campus in New Alexandria, PA (about 50 minutes away). Directions to the barn can be found under course documents on Blackboard.

What if I don't have a car?
Riders are expected to car pool to lessons. Once you are assigned a lesson group an email will be sent to you with the phone numbers of people in your group willing to drive others. Carpooling is strongly encouraged because there is limited parking at the barn.
