Students who participate in the Saint Vincent College Equestrian Club or Team achieve more than what a standard classroom has to offer. Our 205-acre classroom with leather seats provide students with the opportunity to learn horsemanship and patience while building their courage and self-confidence.
The Equestrian program at Saint Vincent College has been in existence for over fifteen years. We are currently in the process of updating our tack in order to continue to provide lessons to students. Since we are a club, we receive very little funding from the college and therefore it is our responsibility to generate the resources needed to purchase new equipment. If you are able to make a contribution to our program, please contact our adviser and coach, Dr. Veronica Ent, at veronica.ent@stvincent.edu or by phone at 724.805.2586. All donations are tax-deductible and any amount is greatly appreciated.
We also have several opportunities available for you to donate to a specific cause listed below. If you are interested, please contact Dr. Veronica Ent at veronica.ent@stvincent.edu.
New Tack for One Lesson Horse $1500
Our membership fee of $35 a year is used to help cover the cost of maintenance. However, the club has been in existence for over 15 years and many of our saddles and bridles are starting to become unrepairable and our horses are in desperate need of new saddle pads. The funds generated will help us purchase new tack for each of our 10 lesson horses in order to continue providing lessons to students for the next 10+ years.
Provide Care for a Lesson Horse $500
Many of our club members have formed lasting relationships with our lessons horses and return to the farm, years after graduating, to visit them. Doubletree Farm is the final home of our lesson horses and we provide them with the best of care, even when they retire to the pasture. To explain our dedication to the welfare of our horses, our Shetland pony named Walter is celebrating his 35th birthday this year. The funds generated will be used for the shoeing, medical needs, and feeding of a lesson horse for one year.
Provide Club Transportation for One Year $250
Our farm is located 45 minutes from Saint Vincent College and lessons are grouped according to driver availability since many members do not have a car of their own. We encourage members to provide their driver with a few dollars to cover the cost of gas, but many times students feel ashamed that they do not have money to offer due to tight financial situations at home. The funds generated would allow us to reimburse drivers for transportation for lessons for one year.
Sponsor a Club Member $100
We strive to maintain our yearly club membership at $35, yet some students are not financially able to afford the membership and the additional cost of purchasing a helmet. The funds generated will be used to pay for the membership for students, the purchase of a helmet, and assist in transportation costs for those in financial need.
